Landslides Keep Manikarn–Barshaini Road Risky in Kullu Valley

Manikarn–Barshaini Road in Kullu Remains Landslide-Prone

Kullu: The Manikarn–Barshaini road in Kullu’s Manikarn Valley continues to pose serious risks due to frequent landslides and falling debris from the hills. Although the administration has taken safety measures, conditions have yet to return to normal, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents and tourists.

Local residents reported that traveling on this route remains highly risky as stones and debris can fall at any moment. Several incidents have forced drivers to navigate the road with extreme caution to avoid accidents. This crucial route connects major tourist destinations such as Tosh, Pulga, and Khirganga, where a large number of vehicles pass daily. However, the ongoing landslides have disrupted regular traffic.

Accumulated mud and rocks on several road stretches have increased slipperiness, further raising the risk of accidents. Locals are urging authorities to implement permanent safety measures, including protective walls and nets along landslide-prone areas, as well as to intensify regular monitoring and debris removal.

While the administration continues to restore the road and remove debris periodically, the constant landslides make it challenging to fully control the situation, leaving both residents and travelers on high alert.
