Police Team Attacked During Grenade Probe in Punjab; Accused Freed by Mob, Two Officers Injured

Punjab Police Attacked During Grenade Case Probe

A police team investigating the hand grenade attack at Bhindi Saidana Police Station was allegedly attacked by associates of the accused, leaving two police personnel injured and enabling the suspect to escape from custody.

According to police sources, the incident dates back to March 30, when a hand grenade attack took place at Bhindi Saidana Police Station. As part of the ongoing investigation, a police team visited the residence of Manjit Singh on April 4 for questioning regarding the case.

Manjit Singh, who reportedly has 14 criminal cases registered against him, had been released on bail in February this year. Officials said that tensions escalated soon after the police team reached his residence.

Family members and associates of the accused allegedly launched a sudden attack on the police personnel, pelting bricks and stones. The assault was so intense that officers reportedly had little time to respond.

Taking advantage of the chaos, the attackers managed to free Manjit Singh from police custody, after which he fled from the spot.

Two police officials sustained injuries during the incident and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Police have registered a case against six accused individuals and initiated further investigation. Raids are currently underway to trace and arrest the absconding suspect and others involved.

Authorities stated that strict action will be taken and no accused will be spared.
