Chandigarh: The head of Satlok Ashram, Rampal, has received major relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which recently granted him bail in a sedition case. This comes after Rampal spent nearly 11 years, 4 months, and 20 days behind bars, primarily in Hisar Central Jail.
Rampal was arrested on November 19, 2014, from Satlok Ashram in Barwala, Hisar district. His arrest stemmed from a defamation case, where he failed to appear in court. When the police attempted to arrest him, violent clashes broke out between his supporters and law enforcement, resulting in the tragic deaths of five women and a 1.5-year-old child. Subsequently, a sedition case was filed against Rampal, highlighting complex challenges involving religious beliefs and law enforcement across India.
Following his legal challenge against the sentence, the High Court recently granted Rampal bail. The decision has sparked celebrations among his supporters, while critics express concern about potential social and religious tensions.
Questions now arise regarding whether Rampal will resume activities at the ashram or face further legal proceedings. All updates regarding his bail and future legal developments will continue to be closely monitored.
Supporters believe the bail is a significant step toward justice, while opponents worry it could increase religious tensions and have a negative societal impact.
