Heavy Rains Trigger Landslides in Himachal Pradesh, Bridge Collapses and Roads Damaged

Severe weather conditions continue to wreak havoc across Himachal Pradesh as continuous rainfall has triggered multiple landslides, road collapses, and infrastructure damage in several districts.

On Tuesday, a major incident occurred in Bharmour area of Chamba district where an under-construction iron bridge collapsed due to a landslide caused by persistent rains. Authorities are assessing the damage while monitoring nearby areas for further risks.

In Kullu district, a car collided with debris following a landslide on the Manikaran–Barshaini road. Fortunately, both the driver and passengers narrowly escaped without serious injuries. Landslide incidents have also been frequently reported in the Ghatigarh region.

In Manali, the highway on the left bank near Aleo subsided before reaching the town, raising concerns about another potential road closure. The situation worsened near Chachoga, where a section of the road collapsed again despite having been reconstructed after damage during the previous monsoon season. Nearly half of the roadway has reportedly sunk, disrupting traffic movement.

Earlier on Monday, a couple sustained injuries in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti district, after rocks fell from a hillside onto a moving taxi.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert warning of heavy rainfall across the state for the next two days. Authorities have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious and avoid traveling through landslide-prone areas.

Officials continue to monitor vulnerable zones as emergency teams remain on alert to handle any further weather-related incidents.
