The Punjab Government has intensified relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas following last year’s natural disaster. As part of these ongoing initiatives, Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak conducted a special visit to the flood-affected JUBDC canal near Behrhi Buzurg to review the progress of restoration and construction work.
The minister was accompanied by Pathankot Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pallavi, officials from the Irrigation Department and PSPCL, District Parishad member Nitin Thakur, Block President Sandeep Kumar, and other representatives of the Aam Aadmi Party.
During the visit, Lal Chand Kataruchak stated that the natural disaster in 2025 severely impacted several parts of Punjab, causing significant losses to homes, crops, and livestock. Agricultural land also suffered extensive damage, leaving farmers facing major setbacks.
He emphasized that the Punjab Government and district administration had initiated relief operations immediately after the disaster and continue to provide all possible assistance to affected residents.
Officials informed that repair and reconstruction work on the damaged canal and dam systems is being carried out on a war footing. Through coordinated efforts by the Irrigation Department, Electricity Board, and other concerned agencies, the project is expected to become operational again within approximately ten days.
Authorities assured that water supply to the dam will soon resume, ensuring adequate irrigation water for farmers and helping agricultural activities return to normal.
The government is also ensuring that all damaged infrastructure projects are fully restored at the earliest to meet the basic needs of local residents.
The minister said the visit was not merely an inspection but a reassurance that the government stands firmly with people during difficult times and remains committed to rebuilding affected regions.
