In a major step toward strengthening healthcare delivery across the state, the Punjab government has intensified efforts to ensure health services reach every citizen under the Chief Minister Health Scheme being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
To strengthen the scheme at the grassroots level, the government has fully activated a vast network of ASHA workers across Punjab. More than 19,000 ASHA workers, along with nearly 900 facilitators, have taken charge of a large-scale door-to-door registration campaign in villages.
These frontline health workers are not only spreading awareness about the scheme but are also assisting residents by guiding them to Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres, making the registration process easier and more accessible.
Each ASHA worker has been assigned responsibility for approximately 1,000 people, allowing them to directly reach nearly 250 households. The model has proven particularly effective in rural areas, where lack of awareness previously posed a major challenge.
The campaign has already shown strong results. In the past 20 days alone, around one million people have registered under the scheme, marking a significant step toward expanding health insurance coverage across Punjab.
To maintain momentum, the government is also providing incentive payments to ASHA workers, encouraging them to carry out their responsibilities more efficiently and ensuring wider public participation in the health initiative.
