Punjab Anti-Drug Drive Cuts Crime by 37% in Faridkot, Robbery Recovery Hits 97%

Punjab Anti-Drug Drive Cuts Crime 37% in Faridkot

Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s anti-drug campaign, Faridkot district has emerged as a strong example of success, recording a significant 37% decline in overall crime and achieving a remarkable 97% recovery rate in robbery cases.

The improvement comes as a result of sustained action under the state government’s “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign and “Operation Prahar,” which focus on dismantling drug networks and strengthening law enforcement across Punjab.

Strong Enforcement and Public Participation

Officials stated that the transformation in Faridkot has been made possible through strict enforcement measures, technology-based surveillance, and active public participation. These coordinated efforts have weakened local drug ecosystems while improving overall law and order.

Regular meetings with Village Defence Committees (VDCs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and social groups have strengthened grassroots intelligence gathering. Residents are now actively sharing information about drug traffickers and anti-social elements, enabling police to respond quickly and effectively.

Police Confidence and Community Trust Growing

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pragya Jain, IPS, who is supervising the campaign, said public trust in the police has increased significantly.

She noted that informants’ identities are kept strictly confidential and immediate action is taken on credible inputs. According to her, people from all age groups are actively cooperating, making community trust a key force in the fight against drugs and crime.

Technology Plays Key Role

Technology has also played a crucial role in the district’s success. CCTV cameras installed at key locations have enhanced monitoring and response capabilities.

In Dhilwan Kalan village, an extensive CCTV surveillance network now covers link roads and nearby highways. The real-time monitoring system is accessible to both village administration and police authorities, ensuring constant vigilance over suspicious activities.

Local residents have acknowledged the impact of these initiatives. Village Sarpanch Sukhjit Singh said CCTV surveillance has enabled early detection of suspicious movements linked to drug trafficking, allowing police to act before crimes occur.

Faridkot Emerging as Model District

Under the Punjab government’s anti-drug mission, Faridkot is now emerging as a model district showcasing how strict policing, smart technology use, and community involvement can effectively curb drug networks and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
