250 Progressive Farmers Honoured at Khalsa University for Promoting Sustainable Farming Without Stubble Burning

250 Farmers Honoured for Sustainable Farming in Punjab

In a major initiative to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce air pollution, Khalsa University honoured 250 progressive farmers from across Punjab for adopting farming practices without stubble burning.

The event aimed to strengthen collaboration and awareness among farmers regarding effective crop residue management and climate-resilient agriculture. Farmers, researchers, social organizations, and government representatives participated in the program, highlighting the growing importance of eco-friendly farming practices.

Several organizations working toward climate-adaptive agriculture joined the initiative, including Agriculture Heritage Mission, Institute of Human Development, IPS Foundation, Young Innovative Farmers Group, Clean Air Punjab, Air Care Centre, ASER, CIMMYT, and IIMR.

The ceremony was attended by Khalsa University’s Vice Chancellor along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Rupinderpal Singh and SDM Majitha Piyusha Burdak.

During the event, experts and agricultural leaders discussed alternatives to stubble burning, crop diversification, soil health improvement, and efficient resource management. Speakers included Dr. Mehal Singh, progressive farmer Palwinder Singh, Gurvinder Singh Bajwa from the Young Innovative Farmers Group, Dr. Raminder Kaur Hundal from KVK, Dr. Manish from IIMR, Dhananjay from the Institute of Human Development, Ajay Malik from IPS Foundation, and Gurpreet Kaur, state leader of Clean Air Punjab.

They emphasized that farmers play a crucial role in the Clean Air campaign and that such initiatives can significantly help reduce air pollution while ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability.

The organizers noted that promoting stubble management practices not only protects the environment but also improves soil fertility and supports sustainable livelihoods for farmers across Punjab.
