The Punjab Government has ordered the transfer of nine IAS and PCS officers as part of a major administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and improving administrative efficiency. The transfers have been implemented with immediate effect.
According to official orders, the reshuffle includes the transfer of one IAS officer and eight PCS officers, with new postings assigned across various departments to streamline administrative functioning.
Among the transferred officers is Babandeep Singh Walia (PCS), who was serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bagha Purana. He has now been transferred to Fazilka. Notably, Walia had recently submitted a complaint to the Punjab Chief Secretary against his immediate reporting officer, Moga Deputy Commissioner Vimal Setia (IAS).
The issue reportedly emerged during the recent Bagha Purana Block Samiti elections. In a communication sent to the Chief Secretary, the then SDM allegedly stated that heavy political interference had created an environment that was not conducive to conducting free and fair elections.
In his written complaint, the SDM accused the Moga Deputy Commissioner of causing excessive harassment, mental stress, and undue pressure in connection with the elections for the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Bagha Purana Panchayat Samiti.
The administrative reshuffle is being viewed as part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to enhance administrative accountability and efficiency across departments.
