A State-Level Jal Mahotsav was organized in Baddi of Solan district on the occasion of World Water Day, where Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing clean drinking water and irrigation facilities to every household and farm.
Addressing the gathering, Agnihotri said ensuring safe drinking water for all and irrigation water for every field remains a top priority of the state government, with the Jal Shakti Department actively working toward achieving this goal.
10,000 Water Schemes Under Implementation
The Deputy Chief Minister revealed that nearly 10,000 water-related schemes are currently being implemented across the state to strengthen water supply and irrigation infrastructure. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, projects worth around ₹6,000 crore have already been executed in Himachal Pradesh.
He also mentioned that proposals worth ₹1,227 crore related to departmental schemes are pending approval with the central government.
Financial Support for Tube Wells
During the event, Agnihotri announced ₹2 crore each for the Doon and Nalagarh Assembly constituencies for strengthening and installing tube wells. The funding will be jointly ensured by the Jal Shakti Department and the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Development Authority.
Additionally, he assured that 50 new posts each would be filled in the Jal Shakti Department for both constituencies to improve operational efficiency.
Infrastructure and Transport Announcements
The Deputy CM stated that the issue of the Nalagarh–Baddi National Highway four-laning project will be raised with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite work. Improvement of the highway connecting Kalka (Haryana) to Baddi will also be taken up with the central government.
He further announced procurement of 297 electric buses and 250 diesel buses, which will be deployed across the state as per requirement, including Doon and Nalagarh regions.
Focus on Water Conservation
Highlighting the importance of water conservation, Agnihotri said water is the foundation of life and called upon citizens to support government initiatives aimed at sustainable water management.
Currently, around 500 tube wells are operational in the Baddi–Nalagarh region to meet growing water demand, where daily consumption is estimated at 16 lakh litres.
Awards and Recognition
During the ceremony, women contributing significantly to water management were honoured with the “Neer Nari Samman.” Dedicated department employees received appreciation certificates for their 24×7 service, while Gram Panchayats Basal and Panjhera were recognized for effective operation and maintenance of water schemes.
An exhibition showcasing the functioning and achievements of the Jal Shakti Department was also inaugurated, along with cultural performances promoting water conservation awareness.
The event witnessed participation from public representatives, senior officials, departmental staff, and local residents, highlighting the government’s continued focus on strengthening water infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.
