A major development initiative unfolded in Jalalabad, Fazilka, as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated large-scale road infrastructure projects, laying the foundation stone for 300 kilometers of new roads and initiating repair work for 350 kilometers of existing roads across the region.
Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister stated that the era of poor-quality roads in Punjab has ended, emphasizing that strict accountability will now be ensured in every infrastructure project undertaken by the government.
Mann said the initiative forms part of the state’s ambitious 43,000-kilometer road network expansion plan, aimed at strengthening Punjab’s overall infrastructure. He added that the government is not only constructing roads but also working to upgrade the state’s foundational infrastructure to modern standards.
He further announced plans to introduce underground electricity wiring, which will gradually eliminate traditional electric poles in the future.
Political Remarks and Governance Claims
During his speech, Mann criticized previous governments, claiming that the current administration has accomplished more in the past four years than traditional political parties achieved in the last seven decades. He expressed confidence that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would secure a major victory in the 2027 Assembly elections with over 100 seats.
Targeting the Shiromani Akali Dal, Mann remarked that the party is now running a “family-saving campaign,” alleging that earlier regimes caused significant damage to Punjab through misgovernance, rising crime, and drug-related issues.
He also criticized the Congress party, stating that internal conflicts have weakened its political direction and that it lacks a clear agenda for the public.
‘Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ Announced
In a significant social welfare announcement, the Chief Minister introduced the “Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana.” Under the scheme:
- Every woman will receive ₹1,000 per month
- Women belonging to Scheduled Castes will receive ₹1,500 per month
- Funds will be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts
The government estimates that nearly 97% of women in Punjab will benefit from the initiative.
Infrastructure and Border Area Development
Mann highlighted that a large-scale program is underway to repair and upgrade link roads across the state, including five years of maintenance responsibility to ensure durability and quality.
Focusing on border region development, he announced that doctors and teachers will now be required to serve at least two years in border areas, ensuring improved healthcare and education services. Personnel serving in these regions will receive additional promotion points and allowances as incentives.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government aims to deliver balanced development, improved public services, and stronger infrastructure throughout Punjab.
