Under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, a major breakthrough has been achieved in the ongoing anti-drug campaign aimed at making Punjab drug-free. The Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module and arrested three key masterminds.
During the operation, police recovered 24.5 kilograms of heroin along with ₹21 lakh in drug money, marking a significant success in the state’s fight against narcotics trafficking. The information was shared by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
Arrested Accused Identified
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Jagjit Singh alias Rana, resident of Village Noorwal, Amritsar
- Manpreet Singh alias Preet, resident of Village Aulakh Khurd, Amritsar
- Roshan Singh, resident of Village Dhupsari, Amritsar
Drone and Vehicles Seized
Police also seized a multi-copter drone allegedly used to transport drugs from across the Pakistan border. Additionally, a Mahindra Thar SUV and two other vehicles were confiscated during the operation.
Direct Links With Pakistan-Based Handlers
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers. Technical surveillance and forensic analysis helped authorities dismantle the smuggling network.
Investigations further revealed that accused Jagjit Rana had purchased expensive properties using drug money. Police are now probing the financial aspects of the case to trace illegal assets.
An FIR (No. 43 dated March 2, 2026) has been registered at ANTF Police Station, SAS Nagar under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Aircraft Act.
Officials described the operation as a major achievement in Punjab’s ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking, with further arrests likely in the coming days.
