The alleged suicide of Punjab District Warehouse Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa has triggered a major political controversy across the state, with the deceased officer’s family demanding the immediate arrest of former AAP minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar.
The family has alleged that pressure is being exerted at higher levels to influence the investigation and obstruct the delivery of justice. Randhawa’s wife, Upinder Kaur, a government school teacher, addressed a press conference in Amritsar and stated that the family would not allow the postmortem or last rites to take place until the accused are arrested.
She emphasized that the fight was not just for her family but for truth and justice, urging authorities to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
The incident has intensified political tensions in Chandigarh, with leaders and workers from the BJP, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal staging protests against the state government. Demonstrations turned tense when protesters broke police barricades, leading to clashes between police personnel and demonstrators.
To control the situation, police used water cannons and detained several protesters on the spot. Heavy police deployment has been made in the area to maintain law and order amid rising tensions.
The case has now become a major political flashpoint in Punjab, with opposition parties demanding accountability and swift action from the state government.
