Rajeev Bhardwaj Secures Fisheries, BharatNet Boost

BJP Member of Parliament Rajeev Bhardwaj raised key issues related to Himachal Pradesh during Budget Session-II in the Lok Sabha and obtained important assurances from the Central Government regarding fisheries development and digital connectivity projects.

On March 17, 2026, the MP questioned the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying about plans to establish a fisheries training centre in Himachal Pradesh. In response, the Union government approved the establishment of a modern fisheries training centre in Gagret area of Una district with a sanctioned budget of ₹5 crore.

The proposed centre is expected to strengthen the fisheries sector in the state by promoting modern technology, skill training, and innovation. Bhardwaj stated that the expansion of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) facility to fishermen and fish farmers will help meet their working capital requirements and improve livelihoods. He added that these initiatives would boost fish production, quality improvement, modernization, and welfare of fishing communities.

Additionally, on March 18, 2026, the MP raised a question before the Union Communications Ministry regarding broadband connectivity expansion under BharatNet Project-III in Kangra and Chamba districts. The Central Government informed the House that BharatNet Phase-III has been approved to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to 3,615 gram panchayats, including those in Kangra and Chamba.

Under the project, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been designated for implementation, while ITI Limited will serve as the executing agency. The initiative will provide stable internet services ranging from 2 Mbps to 20 Mbps in rural areas.

Bhardwaj said the project would significantly strengthen digital connectivity in rural Himachal Pradesh, creating new opportunities in education, healthcare, and employment while accelerating grassroots development.

He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government remains committed to the overall development and empowerment of Himachal Pradesh across sectors.
