US Seeks $200 Billion War Fund Amid Escalating Iran Conflict, Weapons Stocks Depleting

US Requests $200B Billion Fund Amid Iran Conflict

Washington: The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is no longer limited to missiles and drone strikes, as it is now placing significant financial pressure on the United States. The administration of Donald Trump has reportedly requested a massive $200 billion war fund from the US Congress to sustain military operations against Iran.

According to a report by The Washington Post, three weeks of intense aerial bombardment targeting Iranian positions have significantly depleted US precision weapon stockpiles. The Pentagon is now seeking additional funding to replenish ammunition and maintain operational readiness.

Rising War Costs

Reports indicate that within the first week of the conflict alone, the United States had already spent approximately $11 billion (over ₹90,000 crore). Defense officials warn that continued military engagement without replenishing supplies could weaken America’s global military capabilities.

US Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg is currently working to ensure adequate funding reaches the defense industry so that weapons production can match the pace of military operations.

Earlier, President Trump had announced a $1.5 trillion defense budget, representing a nearly 50% increase compared to the previous year. The newly requested $200 billion (around ₹16.5 lakh crore) in additional funding has intensified political debate in Washington.

Political Divide in Washington

The Pentagon’s funding request has triggered sharp reactions within US politics. Democratic lawmakers have reportedly opposed deeper American involvement in the conflict, while public support for prolonged military engagement appears to be declining.

Defense analysts note that even if funding is approved, weapons manufacturing cannot increase overnight due to production constraints. Experts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies suggest the funding proposal will serve as a key test of how long the United States intends to sustain military operations in the region.

If Congress fails to approve the funding, analysts warn that US military preparedness and global strategic influence could face challenges in the coming months.
