Punjab has received a major infrastructure boost as the Indian Railways announced a new railway project connecting Bathinda and Talwandi Sabo. The project aims to link the holy shrine of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib with the railway network, improving connectivity for pilgrims and local residents.
Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu shared details of the project, stating that a 34-kilometre railway line has been proposed between Maur and Rama Mandi. The railway corridor is expected to significantly enhance transportation facilities in the region while promoting religious tourism.
According to the minister, the project is estimated to cost more than ₹1,100 crore, making it one of the major railway infrastructure developments announced for Punjab in recent years.
Bittu emphasized that the new rail link will provide direct connectivity to Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, one of Sikhism’s most sacred religious sites, making travel easier for devotees visiting from across the country.
While addressing the announcement, the minister also criticized previous governments, alleging that earlier administrations made promises but failed to execute the project. He said earlier governments remained limited to paperwork and discussions without delivering tangible results.
The proposed railway line is expected to boost regional development, improve mobility, and strengthen Punjab’s rail infrastructure once completed.
