The Amritsar Commissionerate Police achieved a major breakthrough after busting an illegal cross-border arms smuggling module and arresting six accused, including one minor. Police officials recovered seven sophisticated pistols from the suspects during the operation.
According to preliminary investigations, the accused were in contact with a foreign-based handler operating from Portugal, who allegedly coordinated the smuggling of illegal weapons from Pakistan into India. The arms were reportedly intended for supply to criminal elements within the region.
Pakistan-Linked Smuggling Network Under Investigation
Police sources revealed that the seized weapons were part of a larger trafficking network operating across international borders. The smuggled arms were being distributed through local operatives before reaching organized criminal groups.
An FIR has been registered at Cantonment Police Station, Amritsar, and authorities have launched a detailed investigation to identify both forward and backward linkages of the network.
Zero Tolerance Policy Against Organized Crime
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict action against illegal arms trafficking and organized crime. Officials stated that a zero-tolerance policy will continue to be enforced to dismantle such networks and ensure public safety.
Further arrests and recoveries are expected as investigations progress.
