Chandigarh/Bathinda: In a major breakthrough under Punjab’s ongoing security drive, the Counter Intelligence unit in Bathinda successfully foiled a potential terror conspiracy and arrested two suspects while recovering two hand grenades from their possession.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the arrested individuals as Boota Singh alias Gurpreet Singh alias Gopu, a resident of village Gilwali in Ferozepur, and Harmander Singh alias Nikka, a resident of village Mothawali in Moga district.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered grenades were part of an illegal supply chain linked to cross-border elements. The accused allegedly intended to disturb peace and pose a threat to public safety in the state.
Police officials stated that investigations are underway to identify other individuals associated with the module and trace further operational links.
Sharing operational details, AIG Avneet Kaur Sidhu said Counter Intelligence teams received credible inputs that two operatives connected to a terror module were attempting to procure weapons. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police teams intercepted the suspects on the Moga–Ferozepur road and arrested them, recovering two grenades during the operation.
Officials confirmed that the prompt action by Counter Intelligence prevented a major incident and neutralized a potential terror threat.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 06 dated March 17, 2026, under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Further investigation is in progress.
