Indian Army Foils Pakistani Drone Intrusion Near LoC in Poonch

Pak Drone Spotted Near LoC in Poonch, Army Responds

Security forces opened fire after a Pakistani drone was spotted near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said on Sunday. The incident has further heightened tensions along the sensitive border region.

According to officials, the drone briefly hovered over the Digwar area near the Line of Control before returning to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Troops stationed at a forward post noticed the suspicious aerial movement at around 6:10 AM and fired more than a dozen rounds in an attempt to neutralize the threat.

Although the drone managed to evade the gunfire and retreated, security forces immediately launched a massive search operation in the area. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the drone may have dropped weapons, explosives, or narcotics before fleeing.

This marks the second such drone-related incident in the region within three days. On February 28, another Pakistani drone was sighted in the same sector, prompting a similar response from the Army. The repeated incursions have led to increased vigilance and strengthened anti-drone measures along the LoC.

Defence experts believe that the growing use of drones by Pakistan-based elements could be aimed at destabilizing the border region. In recent years, drones have frequently been used by terror outfits for cross-border smuggling of arms, explosives, and drugs.

The Indian Army has intensified surveillance and deployed advanced anti-drone systems to counter such threats. Officials confirmed that troops remain on high alert to prevent any infiltration attempts.

Poonch district, located along the LoC, remains a highly sensitive zone where several drone intrusion incidents have been reported in recent years. The latest episode underlines the tense security situation along the India-Pakistan border, even as global geopolitical tensions remain high.

Further updates are awaited as the search operation continues in the area.
