The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the acquittal of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, senior party leader Manish Sisodia, and others in the alleged Delhi liquor policy corruption case.
The move comes just hours after the trial court acquitted all 23 accused persons, including Kejriwal, Sisodia, and K. Kavitha, citing lack of sufficient evidence to proceed with convictions.
In its appeal, the CBI contended that the trial court’s order overlooked several crucial aspects of the investigation and failed to adequately consider the material evidence placed on record. The agency has sought judicial intervention, arguing that key findings and documentary evidence were not properly evaluated.
The excise policy in question was formulated by the Delhi Government in 2021 but was later withdrawn following allegations of irregularities in its implementation. Subsequently, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered a CBI probe into the matter, triggering a high-profile investigation that led to multiple arrests and charges.
The case has remained politically sensitive, drawing sharp reactions from both the ruling AAP and opposition parties. With the CBI now moving the Delhi High Court, the legal battle over the Delhi liquor policy case is set to enter a new phase.
