The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken major action against Giani Raghbir Singh by retiring him from the post of Head Granthi of Sri Harimandir Sahib.
The decision was taken during an interim committee meeting held on Thursday. Following detailed discussions under a single-point agenda, the committee unanimously passed a resolution to retire Giani Raghbir Singh from his position with immediate effect.
Why Was Giani Raghbir Singh Retired?
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that Giani Raghbir Singh had recently made several allegations and public statements against the SGPC, which allegedly harmed the image of the organization.
According to Dhami, the Head Granthi was given 72 hours to present evidence supporting his claims. However, he failed to provide any proof within the given time frame.
After reviewing all aspects of the matter in the interim committee meeting, members unanimously concluded that the allegations were baseless and that ignoring the 72-hour notice reflected negligence of institutional responsibility.
The committee further stated that the statements made by Giani Raghbir Singh had negatively impacted the reputation of the SGPC. Therefore, considering the circumstances, it was decided to retire him from his post effective immediately.
The development has generated significant attention within religious and political circles, as Sri Harimandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, holds immense spiritual importance for Sikhs worldwide.
