Delhi and Himachal Police Clash in Shimla Over Youth Congress Protest

Delhi, Himachal Police Face Off in Shimla

An unprecedented face-off erupted between the Delhi Police and the Himachal Police in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla over the detention of Youth Congress workers during an AI summit protest.

The confrontation began after Delhi Police arrived in Himachal Pradesh to take custody of three individuals allegedly linked to protests during the AI conference held at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. The protest was reportedly organized by Youth Congress activists.

After spending several hours inside the Shimla district court premises, Delhi Police left with the detained individuals. However, before exiting the state, Shimla Police intercepted their vehicle at the Shoghi barrier near the Himachal border, triggering a high-voltage standoff between the two police forces.

The dramatic confrontation reportedly lasted nearly 10 to 12 hours, marking the first such direct clash between police forces of two states in Himachal Pradesh. During the standoff, Shimla Police registered an FIR against Delhi Police personnel and later detained some of the officers.

The detained officers were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for medical examination. Although tensions ran high for several hours, the situation eventually calmed down.

The incident has sparked a major debate over jurisdiction, legal procedure, and inter-state coordination between law enforcement agencies. Authorities from both sides are yet to issue a detailed official statement clarifying the sequence of events.
