Woman Shot in Patti Over Alleged Love Affair; Accused Still Absconding

Patti Shooting Accused Absconding, Mother Arrested

A young woman was critically injured after being shot in Punjab’s Patti town on Saturday evening in an incident allegedly linked to a past love affair. The accused, identified as Karan Thakur, remains absconding three days after the attack, while his mother has been arrested.

The victim, Ruby Mehra, was on her way to buy medicine with her husband Ansh Grover in Garden Colony, Patti, when the accused allegedly opened fire. She sustained a bullet injury to the head and was rushed to Fortis Hospital in Amritsar, where doctors performed surgery on Tuesday to remove the bullet. Her condition remains critical.

Police investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a previous relationship between Ruby Mehra and Karan Thakur. The two reportedly had frequent disputes before Ruby married Ansh Grover around two months ago. Despite her marriage, the accused allegedly wanted to marry her and had earlier created disturbances at her residence.

According to officials, Karan Thakur’s mother, Jasbir Kaur, allegedly supported her son. Based on a complaint filed by Ansh Grover, police arrested Jasbir Kaur and presented her in court before sending her to judicial custody.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagjit Singh Chahal stated that CCTV footage from the area has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. The accused fled the scene after the attack, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

The case has sparked concern in the region, with police continuing their search for the main accused while the victim battles for her life in hospital.
