The hearing in a defamation case filed against BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut was deferred on Monday at a court in Bathinda due to an ongoing lawyers’ strike. The next hearing has now been scheduled for March 10.
The case was filed by Bebe Mahinder Kaur, alleging defamation. However, proceedings could not take place as legal work across Bathinda courts has been affected by the strike, leading to adjournments in multiple cases.
Speaking to the media, Labh Singh, husband of Bebe Mahinder Kaur, stated that he has been receiving phone calls urging a compromise. However, he maintained that he would accept only the decision of the court and “God’s will.” He added that at their advanced age, frequent visits to court are difficult, but they are determined to pursue the matter legally.
Labh Singh further claimed that they have received several calls from abroad encouraging a settlement. He asserted that even if Kangana Ranaut were to visit their home personally, they would not forgive her. According to him, they will respectfully accept whatever verdict the court delivers.
Meanwhile, Advocate Raghbir Singh Bahniwal said that due to the ongoing strike, the next hearing in the defamation case will take place on March 10. He also informed that an application has been filed in court seeking the surrender of Kangana Ranaut’s passport, citing the advanced age of Bebe Mahinder Kaur and the difficulty she faces in attending court proceedings.
The case continues to draw attention in Punjab, with further developments expected at the next hearing.
