Under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh,” Punjab Police has busted a Pakistan-backed international drug cartel, dealing a major blow to cross-border narcotics networks.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday that Faridkot Police arrested six individuals, including an Army jawan and a dismissed police employee, and recovered 4.8 kilograms of heroin from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Jarnail Singh alias Goldy, a resident of Ludhiana currently serving in the Indian Army; Amardeep Singh alias Boxer, a dismissed PAP cadre employee; Dimple Rani from Ferozepur; and Raman Deep Kaur, Sarabjit Singh alias Sabba, and Amritpal Singh alias Abhijot, all residents of Moga.
In addition to the narcotics seizure, police recovered a .30 bore pistol along with three live cartridges. Authorities also seized ₹30,000 in suspected drug money and confiscated two vehicles — a Thar and an XUV-500 — allegedly used for drug trafficking operations.
According to the DGP, the crackdown is part of Punjab’s intensified drive to dismantle cross-border drug supply chains and eradicate narcotics from the state. Investigations are underway to uncover backward and forward linkages of the network.
The operation marks a significant development in Punjab’s fight against drug smuggling and underscores the state government’s commitment to making Punjab a drug-free state.
