Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal launched a sharp attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of Shiromani Akali Dal, over his recent statements on ending SGPC gangsterism in Punjab.
Addressing the media in Chandigarh, Dhaliwal described Badal’s remarks in Attari regarding curbing gangsterism as “political theatrics.” He stated that the people of Punjab no longer take such claims seriously, asserting that voters understand the realities behind past governance.
Dhaliwal alleged that during the tenure of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, thousands of youth lost their lives and that previous Akali Dal governments pushed young people towards gangsterism and violence.
The AAP leader also questioned the Akali Dal’s closeness to the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that the party aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when in power but remains silent on issues concerning farmers, border regions, and Punjab’s rights. He termed the proposed US–India trade agreement as anti-farmer and demanded a clear stand from the Akali Dal.
Dhaliwal further sought clarification from Sukhbir Badal on matters related to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the issue concerning 328 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib. He stated that such issues are deeply connected with Sikh sentiments and cannot be ignored.
Concluding his remarks, Dhaliwal claimed that the political influence of the Akali Dal is diminishing and asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party will form the government in Punjab in 2027.
