In a joint operation, the Punjab Police and Srinagar Police arrested two suspects in connection with a murder case registered in Tarn Taran.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Philips and Arshdeep Misse, residents of Amritsar and Tarn Taran respectively. Both are reportedly carpenters by profession. The arrests were made in the Alochibagh area of Srinagar, where they were detained on suspicion before being handed over to the Punjab Police after completion of legal formalities.
A Punjab Police team led by Inspector Navdeep Singh reached Police Station Shergarhi in a private vehicle and formally took custody of the accused.
The case has been registered as FIR No. 11/2026 at Police Station City Tarn Taran under Sections 111(4), 25(6), (7), and (8) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway, and officials expect more revelations in the coming days.
The arrests are linked to the recent killing of Harbinder Singh (45), a sarpanch associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Tarn Taran. He was shot dead during a wedding function at Sidhu Farm on February 18.
According to reports, the attackers entered the wedding venue posing as guests. Around 2:30 PM, after Harbinder Singh had finished dancing on stage and sat down on a sofa, one of the assailants allegedly fired four shots at him — hitting him in the abdomen and head, leading to his death.
During the chaos, his cousin Germanjeet Singh attempted to chase the attackers but was shot in the leg. He sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
Police officials have intensified the probe to identify other individuals involved in the crime and to determine the motive behind the attack.
