A delegation of the Minority Lok Bhalaai Sanstha has prepared to take up the issue of workers allegedly removed from service at Integrated Check Post Attari (ICP Attari) and to ensure accountability of the concerned officials.
Addressing the press, the organisation’s President, Satnam Singh Gill, said that a delegation of affected employees was introduced to them by Lakhainder Singh Rodawala, President of the Labour Cell Attari.
Workers Allege Sudden Removal
One of the affected workers, Ranjit Kaur, stated that during the lockdown period they were asked not to report to duty temporarily. They were reportedly assured that once tensions between India and Pakistan eased, all employees would be called back to work. However, the workers claim they have not been reinstated and are now unemployed.
The workers expressed concern over their livelihood, saying that at their current age it would be difficult to find new employment.
Delegation to Meet Commission and MP
Satnam Singh Gill announced that the organisation, along with the affected employees, will meet Punjab State Safai Karamchari Commission Chairman Chandan Grewal next week as per a pre-scheduled programme to seek reinstatement of the dismissed workers.
The delegation also plans to submit a memorandum to Amritsar Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla, urging him to take up the matter with India’s External Affairs Minister to facilitate their re-employment.
Demand for Revival of Trade
Gill further appealed for efforts to resume trade between India and Pakistan under existing bilateral agreements. He pointed out that around 1,433 porters (kullis), who were engaged in loading and unloading goods at Attari, have also been affected due to the suspension of trade activities.
The organisation has demanded immediate steps to restore employment opportunities at ICP Attari and ensure that affected workers regain their livelihood.
