In a shocking case of alleged honour killing, a man has been arrested for orchestrating the murder of his brother-in-law in Punjab’s Sangrur district.
According to police, the accused was reportedly unhappy with his sister’s love marriage and allegedly plotted the killing nearly one and a half years after the wedding.
The victim, Gurpreet Singh Babbu, was shot dead around 2 am when armed assailants entered his house and opened fire. The attackers were captured on CCTV cameras installed near the residence.
Police officials confirmed that the case has been solved and the main accused, Harmandeep, has been arrested for allegedly planning the murder.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranvir Singh stated that the victim’s sister had married Gurpreet Singh in June 2024 through a love marriage, which had reportedly angered her brother.
Investigators believe that resentment over the marriage led to the fatal attack. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in executing the crime.
The incident has once again raised concerns over honour-related violence and family disputes escalating into serious crimes.
