DSP Patti, SHO Sarhali Suspended in Harbinder Singh Murder Case

Following a personal review of the Harbinder Singh murder case by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav has ordered strict action and intensified monitoring of the investigation.

The DGP directed Deputy Inspector General, Ferozepur Range, Snehdeep Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, Surender Lamba to personally supervise the probe and ensure that the accused are brought to justice at the earliest.

Incident Details

According to official information, Harbinder Singh was shot by two unidentified assailants during a wedding function at Sidhu Farm, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sarhali Police Station in Tarn Taran district. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.

Another individual present at the venue attempted to chase the attackers but sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the firing. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Officers Suspended

Fixing responsibility, DGP Gaurav Yadav announced the suspension of DSP Patti Jagbir Singh and SHO Sarhali Gurvinder Singh for failing to take appropriate preventive police action.

The DGP reiterated the Punjab Government’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.

Investigation Progress

SSP Surender Lamba stated that, based on the investigation so far, no angle related to threat or extortion has emerged in the case. Preliminary questioning suggests that personal rivalry or revenge could be the possible motive behind the crime.

He confirmed that the investigation is being conducted using scientific and technical methods. Four separate teams have been formed to analyse CCTV footage under the supervision of senior officers. Additionally, another team, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), is examining the crime scene.

SSP Lamba assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated and exemplary punishment will be ensured for the accused.
