In a major step to strengthen the city’s sanitation system, Dr Jasbir Singh Sandhu, MLA from Amritsar West representing the Aam Aadmi Party, flagged off 12 new garbage collection vehicles for the Municipal Corporation Amritsar.
On the occasion, the MLA also launched the process of installing QR codes on residential houses to ensure more efficient monitoring of door-to-door waste collection.
Strengthening Urban Cleanliness
Dr Jasbir Singh Sandhu stated that the primary objective is to make the city cleaner and ensure timely garbage collection from every household, thereby promoting a healthy environment. He added that the deployment of new vehicles will enhance the efficiency of sanitation workers and provide relief to residents from waste-related problems.
He further said that the Punjab government is continuously taking steps to modernize urban development and sanitation systems so that citizens can benefit from improved civic amenities and a clean environment.
Officials and Local Leaders Present
Sanitary Officer Dr Rama Mahajan, company managers, and several municipal officials were present at the event. Councillors Vijay Bhagat, Virat Devgan, Shamsher Sandhu, Sandeep Singh, Amarjeet Gumtala, along with Ward Incharge Gurdev Jajji, District General Secretary Mukhwinder Virdi, PA Madhav Sharma, and PA Amarjeet Shergill, also attended and appreciated the initiative.
The introduction of QR code-based tracking is expected to improve accountability and transparency in waste management operations across Amritsar.
