PM Modi on AI and Jobs: ‘Preparation Is the Best Cure for Fear’

PM Modi on AI Impact and India’s Job Strategy

Amid global debate over whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) will take away jobs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue in a special interview with ANI.

Responding to concerns about AI-driven job losses, PM Modi said fear can be tackled through preparation. “I understand that our youth are worried about the changes AI may bring to the job market. But the best cure for fear is preparation,” he said.

‘AI Is a Force Multiplier, Not a Threat’

The Prime Minister emphasized that AI should not be seen as a future problem but as a present necessity. According to him, India is using AI to bridge gaps rather than widen them.

He stated that history shows technology does not eliminate jobs permanently—it transforms them and creates new opportunities. While some roles may change, digital transformation will also generate new technology-driven employment in India’s economy.

“AI is a force multiplier,” PM Modi said, adding that it enables doctors, lawyers, and teachers to reach and help more people efficiently. However, he stressed that humans must always make the final decisions.

India’s Skill and Innovation Push

PM Modi highlighted that the government has launched one of the world’s largest skill development initiatives to upskill and reskill youth for the AI-driven future.

He pointed out that India ranks third in the Stanford University Global AI Vibrancy Index 2025, reflecting strong growth in AI research, talent, and economic adoption.

According to him, innovation combined with inclusion will strengthen India’s workforce. “With the right skills and preparation, our youth will lead the jobs of the future,” he said.

India’s Global AI Role

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, PM Modi said the summit strengthens India’s position as a key platform in shaping the global AI agenda.

The summit is based on three pillars—People, Planet, and Progress—and promotes a development-focused framework for AI. He said India aims to act as both a partner and a convenor in global AI cooperation, encouraging shared standards and scalable public-good solutions.

Addressing AI Risks and Regulation

PM Modi also raised concerns about AI misuse, including deepfakes and risks to vulnerable groups. He said India is strengthening its regulatory framework through:

  • Watermarking AI-generated content
  • Enhancing data protection
  • Promoting ethical and responsible AI use
  • Establishing the IndiaAI Safety Institute

He underlined that innovation must go hand-in-hand with strong safeguards. “Technology is a powerful tool, but it amplifies human intent. We must ensure it is used for good,” he said.

The Prime Minister reiterated that global collaboration and responsible governance are essential to ensure safe, inclusive, and development-oriented “AI for All.”

As countries worldwide debate AI governance, India is positioning itself as a leader that balances innovation with strong safety measures.
