Ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP has reportedly intensified efforts to facilitate the possible “ghar wapsi” (return) of Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu.
According to party sources, a preliminary roadmap has been prepared to re-induct the Sidhu couple into the BJP fold. The party’s top leadership is expected to hold consultations with senior leaders before taking a final decision. Sources indicate that clarity on the matter may emerge by the end of this month.
Discussions are currently at an initial stage, but signals suggest that the central leadership is taking the issue seriously. Navjot Singh Sidhu is presently with the Indian National Congress, while Navjot Kaur Sidhu was expelled from the party earlier.
In recent months, the Sidhu couple has openly criticized the Congress leadership and the state party president. Additionally, they have been seen publicly praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparking speculation about a potential shift in political alignment.
However, neither Sidhu nor the BJP has issued any official confirmation regarding the development so far.
