Senior Dietitian at Shah Hospital, Kaithal, Dr Archita Mahajan has shared effective tips on using rice water to promote hair growth, reduce hair fall and improve scalp health.

According to Dr Mahajan, rice water contains amino acids, vitamins and essential minerals that help strengthen hair, boost growth and make it soft and shiny. She explained that fermented rice water can be even more beneficial due to the presence of lactic acid, which supports scalp health and reduces dandruff.

Benefits of Rice Water for Hair

1. Boosts Hair Growth:
Rice water contains a carbohydrate called Inositol, which helps repair damaged hair from within, reduces breakage and promotes healthier growth.

2. Improves Strength and Thickness:
The amino acids and minerals nourish hair roots, making strands stronger and thicker over time.

3. Adds Shine and Smoothness:
Rice water enhances hair elasticity, reduces frizz and makes hair soft and naturally shiny.

4. Reduces Dandruff and Itching:
Fermented rice water contains lactic acid that helps maintain a healthy scalp environment and reduces itching and dandruff.

Strain the water into a glass jar, cover it and leave it for 24–48 hours to ferment. The slightly sour smell indicates fermentation, making it more effective.

Step 4 – Apply:

Dr Mahajan emphasized that while rice water is a natural and affordable remedy, maintaining a balanced diet, proper hydration and good hair hygiene are equally important for long-term hair health.
