In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Rural Police in coordination with central agencies foiled a cross-border explosive smuggling attempt and arrested an आरोपी with two hand grenades in the district.
The action was taken during an intelligence-based joint operation conducted on February 8, 2026. Acting on credible inputs, police apprehended Sukhmanpreet Singh, son of Harjeet Singh and a resident of village Chak Misri Khan.
During the search, officials recovered two hand grenades from his possession. In this connection, FIR No. 33 dated 08.02.2026 has been registered at Lopoke Police Station under relevant sections of the Explosives Act.
Preliminary investigation, supported by technical analysis and field intelligence, revealed that the recovered explosive material was allegedly sent from across the border using a drone. Authorities suspect links to Pakistan-based handlers involved in the smuggling network.
During custodial interrogation, the role of several other conspirators has also surfaced. Special police teams have been constituted to identify and arrest the remaining accused, with raids currently underway.
Officials stated that further arrests and significant revelations are likely as the investigation progresses. The operation highlights heightened vigilance along the border and the continued crackdown on cross-border terror and smuggling activities.
