Demonstrating alertness and dedication to duty, two warders of Kaithu Jail were honoured by Director General of Police (DGP) Abhishek Trivedi for capturing an escaped life convict within just 24 hours. The commendation was awarded on February 9, 2026, along with a certificate of appreciation and a cash incentive of ₹300 each.
Convict Failed to Return on November 1, 2024
According to officials, the convict, identified as Ram Lal, was serving a life sentence at Kaithu Jail. He had been permitted to go outside for assigned work but failed to return to the jail on the evening of November 1, 2024.
Upon noticing his absence, the jail administration immediately initiated a search operation.
Swift Action Leads to Arrest
Jail warders Dinesh Kumar (Belt No. 2023) and Sandeep (Belt No. 227) promptly launched a search operation without delay. After sustained efforts, they successfully located and apprehended the absconding convict from a room in the Kangdhar area.
The New Shimla Police Station was informed, and after being presented at Baluganj police station, the accused was sent back to Kaithu Jail.
History of Absconding
Officials revealed that the convict had previously absconded while on parole and was arrested three years later. He is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence.

DGP Abhishek Trivedi praised the warders for their vigilance, quick response, and strong sense of responsibility. The action has been widely appreciated within the department, boosting the morale of jail staff and reinforcing the message of strict security enforcement.
