‘Hannu Hatela’, ‘Safed Pala’ and ‘Ardhanarishwar’ Shine at International Shivratri Festival in Mandi

On the occasion of the International Shivratri Festival, three impactful theatrical performances were staged at Sanskriti Sadan, captivating audiences with strong social messages and thought-provoking themes. The plays, centered on contemporary issues and sensitive social concerns, were widely appreciated for their meaningful storytelling and powerful performances. ‘Hannu Hatela’ Delivers Sharp Social Satire Presented by Aakar Theatre Society, the play ‘Hannu Hatela Se Ladki Set Kyon Nahin Hoti?’ was directed by Deep Kumar. The production offered a satirical take on the mindset of today’s youth. Through its storyline, the play highlighted how even emotions like love are often restricted by economic status and social boundaries. The protagonist, Hannu Hatela, fails to “set” a relationship due to his financial condition, ultimately raising questions about materialistic attitudes in society. ‘Safed Pala’ Highlights Social Responsibilities The play ‘Safed Pala’, presented by the Society for the Empowerment of Cultural Development, portrayed the current condition of families and society in a poignant manner. It emphasized the importance of love, care, and moral guidance for children. The narrative also addressed the growing issue of substance abuse among youth, particularly drug addiction, identifying it as a serious social challenge and calling for collective awareness and responsibility. ‘Ardhanarishwar’ Reflects Sensitivity and Equality Meanwhile, Jagriti Kala Manch presented ‘Ardhanarishwar’, a powerful performance focusing on the struggles of the transgender community and the question of social acceptance. The play effectively conveyed the need for equality, dignity, and a humane perspective toward marginalized communities. The three performances together added cultural depth to the celebrations, encouraging audiences to reflect on pressing social realities while enjoying the spirit of the festival.
