Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that the government will move a Privilege Notice against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for allegedly making baseless statements and misleading the Lok Sabha during the Budget discussion.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Mr. Rijiju accused Rahul Gandhi of making what he described as “useless and false allegations” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He questioned the basis on which Mr. Gandhi made serious allegations without giving prior notice.
The minister emphasized that there are clear rules of procedure and conduct of business in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha that require members to substantiate allegations made in the House. He said he has requested Rahul Gandhi to authenticate the points he raised during the discussion.
Mr. Rijiju also criticized the Congress leader for making allegations against Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri without prior notice. Calling it a serious breach of privilege, he stated that the government will move the necessary notice before the Speaker.
He further alleged that the Leader of the Opposition did not make any substantive contribution to the Budget discussion and instead focused on unverified claims.
The development is expected to escalate political tensions in Parliament, with further proceedings likely to unfold in the coming days.
