India Signs Social Security Agreement with UK; Holds Strategic Dialogue with China

India has signed a Social Security Agreement with UK – United Kingdom and Northern Ireland aimed at preventing double social security contributions for employees working on temporary assignments in each other’s countries.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the pact will exempt employees on short-term overseas postings of up to 36 months from making dual social security contributions in both countries.

Officials stated that the agreement is designed to facilitate professional mobility and ensure continued social security coverage for workers during their international assignments. The arrangement is expected to benefit businesses and skilled professionals operating between the two nations.

The Ministry further noted that the agreement is part of the broader trade framework between India and the UK and will come into force alongside the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement.

In a separate diplomatic engagement, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also held the India-China Strategic Dialogue with China’s Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, who is currently in India to attend the BRICS Sherpa Meeting.

During the dialogue, both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral ties and acknowledged positive momentum in relations. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation through enhanced people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, along with key multilateral issues.
