Amritsar police, in coordination with central security agencies, have successfully foiled a major attempt to smuggle explosive material across the border. The intelligence-led joint operation was carried out by the Amritsar Rural Special Cell, resulting in the arrest of an accused along with the recovery of two hand grenades.
Based on credible secret information, police intercepted and arrested Sukhmanpreet Singh, a resident of Chak Misri Khani village, on February 8, 2026. During a lawful search, two hand grenades were recovered from his possession. Following the recovery, a case was registered at Lopoke police station under relevant provisions of the Explosive Substances Act.
Preliminary investigation, supported by technical analysis and field intelligence, revealed that the explosive material was delivered from across the border using a drone. Authorities believe the consignment was linked to handlers operating from Pakistan with hostile intentions aimed at disrupting peace and security in the region.
During custodial interrogation, the accused disclosed information pointing to the involvement of additional conspirators. Acting on these leads, special police teams have been formed to conduct raids and apprehend other suspects involved in the network.
Officials stated that the investigation is progressing rapidly and further arrests, along with critical disclosures, are expected in the coming days. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and preventing any attempt to destabilize the border region.
