Chandigarh Court Awards Life Imprisonment in 2019 Double Murder Case

Chandigarh Court Sentences Man to Life for 2019 Double Murder

A district court in Chandigarh has sentenced 35-year-old Kuldeep Singh to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of two real sisters in Sector 22 in 2019. The Additional District and Sessions Judge held the accused guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for committing murder.

The incident took place on the night of August 15, 2019, when Kuldeep Singh, who was employed at a call centre in Mohali, killed Manpreet Kaur (28) and her younger sister Rajwant Kaur (27) in their rented accommodation. The victims were natives of village Balluana in Fazilka district.

According to case details, both sisters were living in a paying guest facility in Sector 22 and were employed with a private company in Zirakpur. They had been residing together at the same place for nearly a year. Kuldeep Singh had been in a relationship with Manpreet Kaur since 2010. However, after Manpreet began distancing herself, the accused grew suspicious of her.

On the night of the crime, Kuldeep allegedly entered the house through the rooftop and attempted to check Manpreet’s mobile phone. A heated argument followed, during which he first strangled Manpreet and slammed her head against the floor. He then strangled Rajwant Kaur to death. To ensure both victims were dead, the accused also attacked them multiple times with a pair of scissors.

Chandigarh Police arrested Kuldeep Singh from Delhi Railway Station based on CCTV footage and other technical evidence. It was also revealed during the investigation that the accused is the son of a retired inspector from the Chandigarh Police.

After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found Kuldeep Singh guilty of committing a premeditated and brutal double murder and awarded him life imprisonment.
