Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Arms, Drug Smuggling Module

Amritsar Police have achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing crackdown against gangsters and drug trafficking. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police uncovered a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module and arrested five accused involved in the illegal network.

During the operation, police recovered six sophisticated pistols, ten live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin, and drug money amounting to approximately ₹11.90 lakh. A vehicle used in the smuggling activities was also seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were actively linked with cross-border smuggling networks and had been involved in the illegal transportation of weapons and narcotics for a considerable period. Some of the recovered firearms were found to be of foreign origin, indicating international links.

Out of the five arrested accused, four belong to village Rodawali under Gharianda police station in Amritsar Rural, while one accused is a resident of village Ranike. All these villages are located close to the international border.

Police stated that the main accused, identified as Simranjit alias Manu, has two prior cases registered against him for heroin smuggling. Other arrested individuals also have a history of involvement in drug trafficking, with some identified as repeat offenders.

An FIR has been registered at Cantonment Police Station, Amritsar, under provisions of the Arms Act and the NDPS Act. Police are conducting a detailed investigation into backward and forward linkages, foreign connections, and financial transactions associated with the smuggling network.

Officials reaffirmed that the campaign against drugs and organized crime will continue with full force to ensure public safety and dismantle criminal networks operating in the border areas.
