Amritsar MC Launches Drive Against Encroachment and Filth

Acting on the directions of Municipal Corporation Amritsar Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill and Joint Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh, a joint enforcement drive was carried out today by the Estate Department and the Health Department to remove encroachments and curb roadside pollution.

The Health Department team, led by Medical Officer of Health Dr. Yogesh Arora, and the Estate Department team under Secretary Sushant Bhatia, along with SI Sanjeev Dewan, SI Harinderpal Singh, and Land Inspector Aman Sharma, conducted the operation from Hathi Gate to Lohgarh Gate.

During the drive, illegally placed carts and stalls occupying public roads were seized to ensure smooth movement of traffic and pedestrians. The Health Department also issued challans to street vendors found littering roads and using single-use plastic, reinforcing the civic body’s commitment toward cleanliness and environmental protection.

Both departmental teams remained on-site for several hours and interacted with shopkeepers and street vendors, creating awareness about maintaining public spaces. Officials issued a strict warning against encroachment on government land and roads, stating that action against violators would continue without exception.

The Municipal Corporation appealed to city residents, shopkeepers, and vendors to cooperate with civic authorities, avoid illegal encroachments, maintain cleanliness in public areas, and refrain from using single-use plastic to help make the city cleaner and more accessible.
