Office-bearers and members of Mission Aagaz held a constructive meeting with Mrs. Riddhi Pal (IDES Batch 2023), the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Amritsar Cantonment Board.
The meeting was led by Deepak Babbar, Executive Director of Mission Aagaz, along with members of the Amritsar Citizens Environment Committee and Brand Ambassadors of the Swachhata Abhiyan associated with the Cantonment Board. During the interaction, several environmental concerns and sanitation-related issues in the cantonment area were discussed in detail.
Mrs. Riddhi Pal shared that she, along with her dedicated green team, regularly organizes plantation drives across the cantonment area. She highlighted initiatives such as the “Mehak Sugandh Khushboo” and “Phulwari” projects, which focus on planting flowering and aromatic plants. These initiatives not only enhance the visual appeal and fragrance of the area but also support biodiversity by providing food for bees and butterflies.
Social activist Gulshan Kumar raised concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of roads and footpaths. He informed that while temporary patchwork is being done at an individual level, larger and more sustainable intervention from the Cantonment Board is required. He suggested holding regular coordination meetings every 15 days or at least once a month to work collectively on civic issues.
The Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) project being successfully operated by the Amritsar Cantonment Board was also discussed and widely appreciated during the meeting. Mrs. Pal assured full cooperation and expressed her willingness to work closely with Mission Aagaz and other civic groups for environmental improvement and cleanliness initiatives.
As a green gesture, Mission Aagaz members presented flowering plants and spider plants to the CEO as a symbol of welcome and environmental commitment.
