At least 30 people lost their lives and several others were seriously injured after a truck overturned in northern Nigeria, officials said on Sunday. The tragic accident occurred in the Kwanar Barde area of Gezawa region in Kano State.
According to a statement issued by the Kano Governor’s Office, the truck driver was driving recklessly and lost control of the vehicle on a highway, leading to the deadly crash. The truck was carrying passengers along with goods and was heading towards the Gajungu town of Kano when the incident took place early Sunday morning.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said that many of the injured are in critical condition and have been rushed to different hospitals for treatment. Emergency services responded promptly, and rescue operations were carried out to assist the victims.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the Governor described the accident as “extremely tragic” and said it represents a major loss not only for the affected families but also for the entire people of Kano State. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine further details and prevent similar accidents in the future.
