Himachal Power Board Proposes Further Cut in Domestic Tariffs

Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board will file a revised tariff petition with the regulatory commission before fixing 2026-27 rates, recommending additional reductions in domestic tariffs.

Expected Relief

From April 2026, household rates may drop by 5-7 paise per unit due to thousands voluntarily surrendering subsidies. Current slabs: ₹5.45/unit for 0-125 units; ₹5.90/unit above 126 units (if consumption exceeds). Aid now targets only genuine needy consumers.

Subsidy Reforms

State government assures Board’s financial needs will be met, ensuring limited-scope subsidies don’t burden households. This protects consumers from higher costs post-subsidy rationalization.

Public Hearings

Industrial and commercial rates face hearings in Shimla (Feb 17), Baddi (Feb 20), Dharamshala (Feb 24)—first time at three sites. Final decisions later.
