Principal Faces Suspension Over Casteist Remark

Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has directed the suspension of Rekha Mahajan, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School Muradpura in Amritsar.

Incident Background

The directive follows Principal Rekha Mahajan’s use of casteist slurs against DPE teacher Jorinder Singh. A two-member departmental committee investigation found her guilty, prompting the Commission to instruct the Education Secretary for immediate action.

Commission Directives

The Commission has summoned a report from the Director of Secondary Education by January 29 during a personal hearing. Chairman Jasvir Singh Gadi stated hearings occurred on two dates, confirming her habitual guilt through preliminary and departmental probes.

Future Actions

Hearings will continue, with legal proceedings under the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Act 1989, binding the police department. Chairman Gadi appealed to all Punjabis to uphold legal boundaries, rise above caste, religion, and race discrimination, and live with equality, love, and brotherhood toward all communities.
