SGPC Chief Dhami Slams Punjab Govt Over FIR in Sacred Swaroops Case Despite Court Recognition

Amritsar, December 30, 2025 – Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami accused the Punjab government of political interference after an FIR was filed in the case of 328 sacred Swaroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, despite the government itself acknowledging SGPC’s authority in court.

Addressing a press conference, Dhami highlighted that the government admitted SGPC’s competence in administrative matters in High Court proceedings, yet pursued an FIR, challenging Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s supremacy. The investigation by Dr. Ishar Singh was ordered by Akal Takht, and SGPC acted strictly per its recommendations without sparing anyone from junior to senior employees.

Dhami clarified that the High Court order cited by the government for the FIR actually affirmed jurisdiction under the Sikh Gurdwaras Act with the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission, not police. He pointed to prior court affidavits where the government upheld SGPC’s autonomy in service matters, calling the FIR a duplicitous political maneuver.

Key Demands and Context

  • SGPC implemented all Dr. Ishar Singh report recommendations without favoritism.
  • Even High Court reinstatement orders were followed by immediate suspensions.
  • Case against CA S. Satinder Singh Kohli pending in Judicial Commission (next hearing January 2026).
  • Government silent on Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s paroles despite SGPC’s court challenges.

Dhami warned against AAP’s interference in Sikh institutions post their “beadbi” election promises, vowing no compromise on Akal Takht directives or protection of the guilty. SGPC officials including General Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan and others were present.
