Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has appealed to the public to strictly refrain from selling or using Chinese synthetic kite strings (commonly known as China Dor), reiterating that the Punjab Government has imposed a statewide ban on their sale and use.
Speaking on the issue, Sandhwan said that the use of China Dor has dangerous consequences, often leading to injuries and fatalities among children, pedestrians, and birds, apart from being harmful to the environment.
The Speaker urged parents not to purchase these strings for their children, and advised young kite-flyers to avoid using them altogether. Shopkeepers have also been asked not to store or sell China Dor. He added that anyone aware of illegal sales in their area should report it directly to his office, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
Sandhwan directed the district administration and police to enforce the ban strictly and take stringent action against violators. He also stated that he will discuss the matter further with the state government to ensure stronger laws and penalties against the production, storage, and sale of the hazardous material.
