Amritsar (Rajesh Sandhu): The Guru Hargobind Sahib Prakash Purab 2026 was celebrated with great devotion at Sri Akal Takht Sahib by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). A large number of devotees attended the religious ceremonies. They gathered to commemorate the birth anniversary of the sixth Sikh Guru.
Firstly, the programme began with the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib. After that, the Hazoori Ragis of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib performed Gurbani Kirtan. Bhai Prem Singh offered the Ardas. Subsequently, Giani Baljit Singh, Granthi Singh of Sri Harmandir Sahib, recited the Hukamnama before the Sangat.
Acting Jathedar Explains the Miri-Piri Philosophy
Meanwhile, Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, congratulated the Sikh community on the occasion of Guru Hargobind Sahib Prakash Purab 2026. He also shared the life teachings of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.
He said Guru Sahib introduced the unique concept of Miri-Piri. This philosophy combines spiritual guidance with temporal responsibility. He added that no other religious tradition presents this principle in the same way.
Furthermore, he explained that Guru Hargobind Sahib wore two swords after the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Through this act, Guru Sahib inspired Sikhs to remain devoted to God while standing firmly against injustice.
Sri Akal Takht Sahib Symbolizes Sikh Leadership
Additionally, Giani Gargaj said Guru Hargobind Sahib established Sri Akal Takht Sahib with Baba Buddha Sahib Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji. Today, it serves as the highest seat of authority for Sikhs across the world.
He also said Guru Sahib fought four battles against oppression and emerged victorious. These victories proved that truth, justice, and righteousness are stronger than any empire.
Therefore, the Guru Hargobind Sahib Prakash Purab 2026 celebrations reminded devotees of these timeless teachings.
Sikh Identity Must Remain Strong
Moreover, Giani Gargaj said Guru Hargobind Sahib instructed Sikhs to become Sant-Sipahi (Saint-Soldiers). He encouraged Sikhs to wear the turban, keep the Sikh articles of faith, and always stand for justice.
He also expressed concern over attempts to question the Kirpan and other Sikh symbols. According to him, such actions directly challenge Sikh religious rights. He added that the Sikh community will never accept such interference.
Furthermore, he emphasized that Sri Akal Takht Sahib remains the eternal throne of the Guru. Many rulers tried to challenge it throughout history. However, they disappeared with time, while the institution continues to stand strong.
Call to Strengthen Faith and Unity
Finally, Giani Gargaj urged the Sangat to strengthen their bond with Guru Granth Sahib and Guru Panth. He also encouraged parents to connect the younger generation with Gurbani, Gurmat, and Sikh history.
Giani Gargaj appealed to the Khalsa Panth to follow the path of Miri-Piri shown by Guru Hargobind Sahib. He also urged everyone to uphold the supreme authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Several SGPC officials attended the ceremony. Head Granthi Giani Gurmukh Singh, committee members, administrative officers, and a large number of devotees also remained present throughout the event.
